Aja

E-mail to a friend

Aja was my name before I came to CFC and Aja it remains. I doubt that many people know that my name means “goat.” That’s funny because my volunteer friend, before knowing this fact, said that I resemble a majestic mountain goat as I perch on the top of a kitty condo and oversee my realm. My somewhat shaggy and thick coat lends to that observation and I am said to be very cute as I get as close to the edge as possible to encourage attention and affection from the folks down below. At this stage of my life I am emphatically not a feline fanatic, much preferring to keep my distance from my roommates, but I love a good chin scratch. I lean into a caressing hand, purring softly, and obviously delighting in being loved. My soft dove gray fur is a joy to run your fingers through and I heartily encourage you to stop by and indulge. During my orientation period at CFC when I was confined to a kitty condo I spent most of my time hiding under the bed and letting loose with what have been described as other worldly yowls when anyone dared to come near me. Boy has that changed! Now that I’m out and about I am one of the first to rush to greet visitors and staff when they come into our room. My conversation is now quite civil and nothing like my initial vocalizations. I do enjoy talking with visitors and I enthusiastically present my plush calico self for some petting and being made over. My volunteer friends say that they can’t believe the change in me and how affectionate and loving I have become. I’d have to say that there is nothing like being where you know you are loved and respected to bring out the best in a girl. CLICK ON IMAGE OR NAME FOR ADDITIONAL PICTURES AND INFORMATION!

Angus

E-mail to a friend

Adopted in April! Beneath this glossy and luxurious coat, highlighted with snowy patches on my chest and tummy, lies a truly gentle soul. I am likely to be reserved, even a bit shy, when I first meet you, but you will discover the true Angus when you pick me up. I just go limp and when you put me on your lap I might make a very feeble attempt to jump down, but pet me a bit and you will soon have a blissful sweetheart on your hands. I love having my back and chin caressed and stroked and you’ll easily see the joy and affection in my big golden eyes. When our guardian had to give us up due to MS, my best buddy in the entire world, Chico, and I came to the sanctuary. I came first and was not adjusting well at all, but as soon as he arrived a couple of days later I perked up and settled in to our new life. You will often see us giving each other reassuring head bumps and on occasion cuddling with our paws wrapped around one another. There is plenty of room in our lives for another best friend, but if one fine and steadfast companion is superb then wouldn’t two be sublime? Just think Angus AND Chico! If you’ve heard the phrase “not a mean bone in her body,” then you know me. I’m as gentle as a lamb and twice as soft. Technically I am an orange tabby with white markings, but my color is really a rich red highlighted by my snow white vest. I never seek confrontation of any kind, finding happiness in having someone stroke me and whisper sweet nothings in my dainty ears. I arch my back with pleasure and look up into my admirer’s eyes with such sweetness that you just won’t want to stop petting me.FELV+ CLICK ON IMAGE OR NAME FOR ADDITIONAL PICTURES AND INFORMATION !

Classically attired in her grey suit with smart, deep brown stripes, her pale yellow eyes are soothing and calming and you will immediately feel at great ease with this sweet lady by your side. Arriving at the sanctuary a couple of years ago when she was found under a woodpile just down the road from CFC, it was tough enough for her to eke out a living just as a single kitty, but when you have a family of little ones to feed, well that task is almost unsurmountable. We whisked her out of that no end lifestyle/situation and gave her the chance she and her kittens needed to flourish. CLICK ON IMAGE OR NAME FOR ADDITIONAL PICTURES AND INFORMATION!

Adopted in June! As with many rescued kitties, I was shy when I first came to the sanctuary. That’s history, as now I follow my “prey” around the room, praying that is that they will sit down and let me be the object of their affections. I make almost constant contact with these big ol’ loving eyes, hoping that my hypnotic gazes will ensnare my person. I have the most incredible soft catcher’s mitt paws. My mythological namesake supported the heavens; for me it would be heavenly just to support my family with as much love and devotion as I can lavish upon them. Adopted in May! What more fitting name for a girl who is so easy to fall for. Residing in this slight body is a pure heart and a bit of a flirt. I welcome my admirers with a trill of greeting and then if you pat your lap there is an excellent chance that I will soon be sprawled across it. I roll around in happiness at fingernails run softly down my back and upon having underneath my chin scratched. After a rough start in life I adore being pampered and spoiled; having someone hold my food bowl while I am on their lap is fine dining in my book and I love it. My radiant gold eyes appear impossibly large for my elfin face and I use them to good advantage when I look up lovingly into the eyes of my human companions. Please come to meet me and I promise that you won’t want to “leaf” without me. CLICK ON IMAGE OR NAME FOR ADDITIONAL PICTURES AND INFORMATION!

My name may be Avatar, but I’m the real me and that’s just one big, sweet, and gentle bear of a cat. You’d think that such a large strapping guy like me would be bold and fearless, but I have to admit that I’m a baby boy. At this point I’m shy and I tend to lie wherever I’m placed, hoping of course that this lovable face and gentle demeanor will entice passersby to dawdle for a spell and make over me. My rolling around and even offering up a furry belly rarely fail to achieve the desired results. I’m as benign and sweet tempered as they come and will make a faithful friend and companion. I’ve heard it said that I’m too beautiful to be a guy, but I’m here to tell you that I’m all dude. Anyway I think dashing and handsome describe me much more accurately. I’m a large rangy guy with the exotic stripes of a wild beast, but with a genial and sweet-tempered nature of an oversized love muffin. Arriving here feeling unloved and abandoned, my metamorphosis to a big old flirtatious love bug is complete. I now revel in getting attention and caresses, rolling over and almost turning myself inside out in the joy of it all. Scratching my chin produces enthusiastic head bumps and a dependable purr. My eyes are bright and full of life; you have only to look into them to see the gentle and loyal soul that resides within me. CLICK ON IMAGE OR NAME FOR ADDITIONAL PICTURES AND INFORMATION!

Bella

E-mail to a friend

Naming me Bella was a slam dunk since Bella is Italian for beautiful, and I am. My soft gray fur with the pastel accents marks me as special, but I think that my social and friendly personality is what really sets me apart. Sit down in my room and it won’t be long before a Bella lands emphatically in your lap, anxious to be made over and loved on. I am so appreciative of affection that sometimes I give a little love nibble to show my gratitude; you just need to say “No, Bella” if I have gotten too enthusiastic. I’m an effervescent girl full of fun and mischief, just waiting here for you to take me home and make me the princess of your kingdom. Betty

Prior to coming to CFC I struggled to survive on my own with my five little kittens and my teen boys Dino and Fred. I had an injured jaw; the pain and trauma of that and being thrust into what was to me an alien, albeit loving, environment put me into a very depressed state that was almost “catatonic.” You would not believe the change in me now. I welcome attention and respond to caresses with soft head nudges and bumps and a little happy dance. With my beautiful red fur, wide face, and gentle eyes I am told that I am pretty irresistible. The most amazing transformation is probably my eyes- at first they had a fixed and cold expression, but now they are alight with life and the joy of knowing that I am loved here. I am friendly with my feline companions and would make a fine buddy for another cat, FIV+ or not, but I don’t think that I would be comfortable with dogs. What is inarguable is that I am gentle with a deep reservoir of love to share. FIV+ CLICK ON IMAGE OR NAME FOR ADDITIONAL PICTURES AND INFORMATION!

Upon first arriving at the sanctuary my only facial expression was a glare of mistrust and fear. With some time and lots of love and reassurance though, I am a new man. Anyone who knew me before would hardly recognize me. My expression now is one of good humor, kindness, and benevolence and when the gang rushes to greet visitors to our room I am right there with them. I am a long cat and sort of glide past admirers so that they can caress my silken fur. I’m as gentle as a lamb and just love everyone, especially other cats. It is so wonderful now to have my back scratched and to be the object of someone’s affection! I am happy and at home and only the occasional nightmare about that big, red-haired clown disturbs my equanimity. Come visit me and all the other grand cats in the FIV room- so many wonderful companions await you here. FIV+ CLICK ON IMAGE OR NAME FOR ADDITIONAL PICTURES AND INFORMATION!

Just as plush, fuzzy and cuddly as your favorite teddy bear, I know the volunteers have a tough time resisting the temptation to pick me up and squeeze me like some big plush toy. A toy, I'm not BUT I'm extremely sweet and love attention. I may not ask for your attention but I know if I am patient enough you'll come on by and give me some lovin." My favorite spot in my room is high up above the cage tops where I am hang out with some of the shyer cats and try to let them know humans are ok. Come on by and and take a fast look up high and I'll surely be waiting for you with a thumping tail and gentle purr. CLICK ON IMAGE OR NAME FOR ADDITIONAL PICTURES AND INFORMATION !

My good friends say that I look just like a "Boyd's Bear." This makes me smile and feel really awesome as I know just how cuddly and appealing these plush toys are. When I initially arrived at CFC, I was shy and a bit timid. Today, I am anything but the insecure fellow I was and have been told I am one of the most "demanding" FIV+ cats in my room. I say demanding in a good way because I "demand" more attention than my roommates and usually manage to eek my way to the front of the cat queue as I vie for a human's leg to rub on. I am a master stretcher as I reach up your leg to get your attention with the ultimate goal of hanging out in your lap. If a lap cat is your cup of tea, then I could be just the one for you! “Yo Ho Ho and a big Butter Rum!” OK, so my knowledge of sea chanties is limited, but I gave it a try and my other great qualities far surpass my musical ability anyway. You’d think that after a year of fending for myself in a parking lot that I would be street wise and cynical, but that’s not me at all. I’m as gentle as a lamb- soft as one too- and am both very calm and wonderfully calming to the one caressing me. I adore occupying a lap and being stroked, where I purr softly and stretch up to give soft head bumps to the chin of the person lucky enough to have me there. I am accepting of other cats and just go about life bestowing love and happily accepting it. CLICK ON IMAGE OR NAME FOR ADDITIONAL PICTURES AND INFORMATION!

Calliope

In mythology, my namesake was the inspiration of epic poetry and my name translates to "Beautiful-Voiced", but I’m just a simple young momma cat. I gave birth to 5 beautiful babies here at the sanctuary and everyone here agrees that there could not been a more attentive, patient, or loving mom. I even let kittens from another litter nurse on me. Now my greatest joy is just hanging out, finding the perfect patch of sunshine on our outdoor patio in which to bask and await the next Calliope admirer to come along. Reach down to stroke my soft calico hued fur and I may just stretch out as long as I can in the enjoyment of the moment. At this point I’m not a lap cat, but now freed of parental obligations you just never know how my personality will develop. What is certain is that I am gentle and sweet. Hi! If you are looking for an exceptionally soft, almost velveteen coated kitty with stunning lime green eyes, well look no further! I could be your gal. In addition to my head turning looks, I am a calm, small gal who revels in gentle all over pets and rubs. I am fast to reward you with the "music" of gentle purring and some light albeit good conversation. I know I am a super special kitty so rather than approaching you as you step over the threshold to my home, I will patiently wait for you to discover me. Hope to see you soon. I confess that I did not make it easy for my admirers to get a good photo of me. When I get attention I tend to flirt outrageously, including bellying up and rolling around enthusiastically in the sheer joy of the moment. It has been said that I am a very beautiful girl, with my ebony medium length fur and my lovely golden eyes. Modesty keeps me from doing more than not objecting to that opinion. Soft as a bunny and gentle as can be, I’m just an all around nice lady cat. CLICK ON IMAGE OR NAME FOR ADDITIONAL PICTURES AND INFORMATION!

Royalty among nuts is the cashew and not so coincidentally I am a prince (did someone say clown prince?) among kitties. If you feel someone pulling at your pants leg trying to attract your attention it probably will be me, the buff boy. With merry eyes and fur as soft as a bunny’s tail I cut quite the handsome figure as I romp around my sanctuary room. I’m an awfully nice little man here at the sanctuary, but just wait until I get my very own home where I can flourish and reach my almost boundless potential! A bit shy when he first meets you, Cavalier is fast to size you up and then WHAM, once you are "in," a new cat emerges! Yes, I’ll admit that once I was quite the diva, but anyone as beautiful as I am would have that tendency, wouldn’t they? I read the legendary calico manual from cover to cover and I took seriously my obligation to lord (or princess) it over the other felines in my room. It took me quite some time to settle into this communal living thing, but now I coexist quite peacefully with my subjects--I mean roommates. I perch delicately in a cat tree staring hopefully at visitors, intent on garnering some caresses and pats from a human admirer. Ours is such a friendly mob of kitties that it’s not always easy to wedge my way into the throng for some Chai adoration. Just because I have adjusted to my group home doesn’t mean that I don’t long for a family of my very own. I have heard it said that I am quite gorgeous with my long and silken coat of many colors and my bright and lively eyes--the perfect adornment for your home and your heart’s life companion. Won’t you come for me and make me the princess of your home? CLICK ON IMAGE OR NAME FOR ADDITIONAL PICTURES AND INFORMATION!

Originally when I arrived at CFC, I was a bit tenative and shy but I have now totally blossomed into my sweet, curious, spontaneous self! Like most cats, it's not unusual for me randomly sprint across my room and attack an unsuspecting toy. I eagerly greet visitors to "my" room with a body rub on their leg and then encourage them to make a lap for me to relax in! Should you decide to stop by to meet me, don't forget to bring me an interactive toy as this will make my day. PS. My name is Cinnabar, not Cinnabon, so you won’t be surprised to find that I’m not some gooey sweet confection. Did you know that cinnabar is a mineral with a bright scarlet to brick red color, valued since ancient times as a pigment? I am a valued member of the CFC community and my color speaks for itself, so Cinnabar is a very appropriate name for me I think. I’m no social butterfly, preferring to find a nice comfy bed in which to while away the hours in quiet contemplation. That doesn’t mean that I’m unfriendly, as I like other cats and am fond of one on one attention from my caregivers. I’m especially eager for it when it’s meal time. You might think it odd, but my preference for attention when it’s time to dine has little to do with wanting the food; it’s more a matter of having the chance to have someone all to myself while all my roomies are concentrating on the culinary delights set before them. When I and my brother Wyatt and sister Lena first came to the sanctuary as wee kittens I was the most frightened of our little band. I would shrink from being touched and was known to let loose with a spitting hiss that would cause even experienced cat people to jump back. I’ve got to admit that it was fun seeing them react that way, since I knew that I was all bluff. Much has changed thanks to all the love I have experienced here; now I am trusting and treasure stretching out and having visitors make over me. My big brother Caesar must have gotten most of the extrovert genes in our little family, for I am more the introvert. Being introverted doesn’t mean that I’m not sweet-tempered, peaceful, sensitive, and capable of receiving and giving lots of love. With a personality that is equal parts gentleness and bashfulness, there is ample room for me to grow into the purrfect companion. I get a little overwhelmed by the rush of everyone to greet visitors to our room and hang back to observe the activities. Visit with me while I lie in my bed on a shelf and I often will just flop with a half roll to encourage you to love on me gently. Scratch my chin and you’ll begin what I hope will be a beautiful friendship. It may take more patience to develop our relationship and gain my absolute trust, but the rewards will make the effort well worth it. I’m fully grown now, but I am still as petite and cute as a kitten. My striking and beautiful facial markings set off my sweet and innocent face, a face that may not have launched a thousand ships but which has attracted a lot of attention. I love gracing a lap and receiving affection, but being a girl of independent spirit and mind I’ll let you know when I’m ready to attend to other pursuits and off the lap I’ll go. I try to be tolerant of other kitties, but there is one bully in our room who tends to pluck my last nerve. His transgressions do nothing to improve my outlook on other cats. In my ideal world I would be the sole feline object of your affection and I promise that I will try to rule my kingdom benevolently and fairly. He most enjoys being out on the screened in porch and on top of a condo with his friends. He is friendly and likes to be petted but he can be bashful at times. It may take a while for Deion to warm up to new settings so please be patient with him. You have to approach him first, then he will follow you around the room. He patiently waits for your attention and for his food. CLICK ON IMAGE OR NAME FOR ADDITIONAL PICTURES AND INFORMATION !

Try as he might my photographer friend was not able to capture the breathtaking aquamarine intensity of my sweet and gentle eyes. However, you can see how large and beautiful they are, set in this big wide tabby girl face. I’m a soft, kindly, and super affectionate lady, sometimes loving referred to as a “squooshy” girl due to the way that I just melt into my person’s lap and arms. I respond with a steady and enthusiastic purr in the joy of being loved on and when I am really ecstatic please forgive my perhaps slightly unladylike drools. I can’t help it--I just love people and being caressed and adored. Add up my gorgeous tabby markings, delectable face, one in a million eyes, and sweet as apple pie personality and the sum is that I’m the girl for you. Do you love a good, and I do mean good, challenge, especially one with fur as soft as a bunny’s nose, a gentle heart, and a tough start in life? If so, I’m your guy. My earliest months were spent with my mom, Betty, and my brother Fred fending for ourselves and deprived of the love and companionship of people. Consequently I’m very shy and suspicious of peoples’ intentions, although deep within I’m starting to realize that those here at the sanctuary want only the best for me. I observe visitors to our room with interest, a mixture of wariness and curiosity that I hope with time, patience, and understanding will become a trusting and friendly “Hello, I’m Dino!” My volunteer friend says that someone as handsome and downy soft as me will be quite the prize if and when I am able to unconditionally accept a human companion. If you’re a fan of rich, dark chocolate you’re going to be crazy over me. I am a true brown tabby, with very dark chocolate stripes and swirls alternating over a luscious cinnamon background. Yummy! My broad face and kindly doe eyes exude a gentleness and serenity that are captivating and memorable. My purr is truly the little engine that could, starting up at the first caress and motoring on without pause as I revel in strokes down my back. I have a live and let live philosophy toward my kitty roommates and a very laid back personality. If it’s true that the eyes are the window to the soul, then mine are a picture window, wide and expansive and allowing all to see that my soul is kindly and tender. I’m told that I’m just an elegant girl with an elegant name. Come sit a spell, visit with me, and indulge your craving for a delicious chocolate confection. Adopted in April! I may have the looks of a mighty lion cat with my new haircut but rest assured I am the sweetest, most gentle kitty in the jungle! Folks tell me I'm one cool cat! They tell me I'm very friendly, unflappable and easily go with the flow. While some kitties might feel a tad embarrassed with such an outlandish "do," I'm still the same kitty cat who will eagerly approach you and seek out a place in your lap. I come from a family of other cats so I am happy to share my new home with other felines. Come on out soon before I grow into my full, plush persian self and you no longer recognize me!! If my pastel calico colors and bunny soft fur don’t remind you of cotton candy I would be very surprised. One touch of my suede like and velvety fur and I hope I will have you exactly where I want you- sitting with me and stroking me gently. Anyone entering my room is likely to look down and see my planted at their feet, gazing enticingly up at them. I’m a sociable lass with people and I even get along well enough with other felines, although there are a couple of bullies in my room that I want to keep my distance from. I’m gentle and friendly, and folks who know me say that I deserve a forever home fully equipped with all the creature comforts including my very own person or people to adore me. I’m sure that you’ve heard that old defense, “I’m not fat, I’m fluffy.” Well, in my case it’s the truth, for I am Fluffy and the years have not weighed on my girlish figure at all. I am lovely in both appearance and attitude, but sadly ‘twas not always so. After losing my person and my home all I wanted to do was to hide my face from everyone until the pain of my hurt eased. With the love and patience of the kind staff and volunteers here at the sanctuary I’m a new girl. I’m loving and sweet, willing to meet you more than halfway; a hand extended down to me is met by my rearing up on my back legs to give it an enthusiastic head bonk. I revel in attention and if you listen carefully you can hear the tiny mews and trills that voice my happiness in giving and receiving love. It’s hard to beat having someone run their hand down my back, which arches in the thrill of it all. The only thing better would be to once again have a home of my very own where I can flourish as your devoted and faithful companion. I’m a work in progress, a potential work of art awaiting the brush strokes of love, patience, and understanding that will enable me to make that final leap of faith into someone’s life, and arms. My earliest months were spent with my mom, Betty, and my brother Dino fending for ourselves and deprived of the love and companionship of people. As a result, I am a bashful, although very gentle, fellow. My journey to trust has reached the point where I sidle up to visitors, greeting them with little chirped meows and hoping for some gentle caresses and soft scratches under my chin. I’m as soft as the finest talcum powder with the nattiest white vest, cute as a button pink nose, and luminous copper eyes that make a new penny look tarnished in comparison. I very much like other cats and for the right artist I’m going to be a priceless masterpiece. CLICK ON IMAGE OR NAME FOR ADDITIONAL PICTURES AND INFORMATION!

After spending almost 15 years with my person, Maxie and I lost our beloved guardian and were brought to CFC. This is a grand place, but honestly there are just so many cats. I am used to a quiet and, except for good natured Maxie, single cat home so I find others invading my personal space a bit off putting. My means of coping is to find a nice cozy place to sleep and to turn my thoughts inward. It’s my version of “Georgia On My Mind.” That’s not to say that I don’t enjoy a friendly scratching of my cute little chin or a gentle caress, but I’m not forward in seeking out attention. My dream of course is to be adopted into a loving home where I can spend the rest of my days wrapped in comfort and respect. To borrow from the classic Ray Charles song, my fondest wish is that “Other arms reach out to me, Other eyes smile tenderly.” CLICK ON IMAGE OR NAME FOR ADDITIONAL PICTURES AND INFORMATION!

Like my namesake I am quite the lady. However, unlike that daring soul you will never catch me riding about town “bare,” for I am far too furry and fluffy and I know absolutely nothing about horses. Although I am petite and very pretty with my medium length fur, visitors to my room might overlook me since I’m not an “in your face” girl and tend to hang back and observe the goings on. Indeed when first we meet I will let you pet me, followed perhaps by a half-hearted swipe of my paw. I mean no harm- just letting you know that I am not a pushover and wish to maintain a degree of independence. Once we have gotten acquainted and you swaddle me in your arms I will snuggle against you purring steadily and softly. As delectable as I am on the outside, with a name like mine you just know that there is a soft and divine center. CLICK ON IMAGE OR NAME FOR ADDITIONAL PICTURES AND INFORMATION!

My barely audible purr is as demure as I am and you probably won’t hear it until you bend down to nuzzle my sweet head. I love chinny scratches and long soft strokes down my dove gray back. Since we’re on the subject of likes, my favorite song is “Amazing Grace” and that just may be what you say when you make my acquaintance. It’s said that “hope springs eternal.” For what seemed like an eternity my hope was to have the operation that would remove my dangling, useless, accident damaged front leg that made it impossible for me to live a normal life. Blessings on those generous people who contributed to the costly surgery that has transformed me into the petite and unencumbered baby girl that I am today. I’m quite the little flirt, greeting visitors with a chirruped hello and rolling around on my back to encourage petting. Once that works my soft and soothing purr starts up; nothing raucous mind you but gentle like me. I just revel in chin scratches and being talked to sweetly. I do believe that my metamorphosis from a sleek and shiny black panther, shying always away from a human touch, to a sleek and shiny black panther who finds the greatest joy in being petted and made over is complete. Do not underestimate my powers of observation, for employing those powers I noticed the other cats being loved on and I correctly deduced that yes it is quite wonderful to lie in a lap and have your chin scratched and your back caressed. I owe much to my big, big buddy Kyle, since adopted, who helped to convince me that people are OK after all. There are so many friendly felines in my room that sometimes I can hardly wedge my way in for some attention. That’s when you might feel a furry body pressing against your back as I take the road less traveled and try to outflank the competition into your arms. If you’re curious about my present mental state, there has not been a King Louis so out of sorts since that late unpleasantness called the French Revolution. I have been described as grumpy and in my own defense I’ll say that you might be grumpy too had you been attacked by an animal and left with an amputated leg and a fairly difficult time getting around. I was very scared when I arrived at CFC, but I have settled in and now don’t hesitate to offer up my opinion of things. One of my caregivers will rub my head while I eat, me grumbling all the while but enjoying the food and if truth be known the affection too; not that I’d admit to such a thing! Will I ever become a purring ball of affection waiting to pounce into a lap? That would be pretty revolutionary, but stranger things have happened here at the sanctuary where love and patience have given new life and purpose to the frightened and the suspicious. I have beautiful golden eyes brimming with life and affection and I do love a good lap in which to repose and enjoy caresses and sweet talk. I do well enough with the other kitties in our room, but would treasure being in a home of my very own with people to lavish love on me every single day. I admit to being somewhat bashful when greeted by an unfamiliar face, and if the mood’s not right even when it’s a familiar one. But if you ask anyone who knows me they will readily tell you that I am just a good natured and very nice gentleman. Give me just a very short time to get comfortable with you and you’ll find me sidling up to give you a head bump and a soft purr to encourage the chin scrunches that I adore. I have been known to grace a lap with my natty black and white attired body, which features a black patch under my chin that can make it look like this slim guy has a double chin. I get along well with my roommates, especially Bandi with whom I love to romp and play. I’m one very gentle and well mannered boy who so appreciates this place of grace and love that I now call “Home.” Please come and spend some time with me and my friends and don’t forget that I LOVE chinny scrunches. My friend jokes that I am one of a very rare breed in the cat world, a Felis Rubmybellius. Just because a fellow joyfully flops and rolls over on his back with all 4 feet in the air in order to have his tummy stroked is no reason to poke fun at him! For those in need of a visual aid I have a black circle on my chest, just the perfect bull’s eye for the caressing gentle hand to use as a guide. Arriving at CFC with the tag of being bashful, I am anything but. I am among the first to greet visitors, sending forth a big vocal hello that the uninitiated might think is but a single word. Those versed in kitty speak will understand that there are nuances to my speech and my vocabulary is broader than you might first think. I am a world champion head bumper, as is my best friend Tiger, who arrived here with me. When we meet head on, you would swear that one of us is going to be knocked silly and end up concussed. Being the enthusiastic giver of head nudges sometimes is to my detriment as not every kitty appreciates the friendliness and good humor of that gesture. I am social, friendly, affectionate and at times silly as I flop for attention; I’m a solid, good sized guy who revels in being petted and who can grace a lap with the best of them. I delight in being with people. Adopt me and you’ll say, ”Bless the day that it became Marley and me.” CLICK ON IMAGE OR NAME FOR ADDITIONAL PICTURES AND INFORMATION!

Hi, I am Lady Marmalade, she of the flowing locks and the glorious colors of a cloudless winter’s day’s sunset. If that sounds immodest I apologize, but I am only telling it like it is. I have the most unique coloring with touches of black dotted and streaked through my beautiful auburn fur. You can imagine that being a lady of a certain age and being plopped down in the midst of all these feline strangers I would have a lot of adjusting to do, and I am working on it. I grumble a bit when a roommate invades my personal space, but I have no trouble at all relating to people. I love getting and giving affection, but there are so many in our room seeking the same thing that it is often difficult finding some alone time with my human admirers. While I’m as delectable as my namesake, you might want to leave me off of your toast; gets it a bit furry you know. If you need a steadfast friend to spend her golden years with you, I’m your girl. This compact little girl kitty was born in 1995 and is quite comfortable with humans as well as other cats. Matilda loves to be spoken to and doted on - when she’s in the mood, of course. Once she gets to know you, she’ll make a great little companion. She doesn’t like being held, but she enjoys being groomed and petted. Matilda would probably do best in a home with one or two adults, and friendly, laid-back kitty companions. CLICK ON IMAGE OR NAME FOR ADDITIONAL PICTURES AND INFORMATION !

After a chirruped “Hello!” you’ll find me next to you when you enter my room; look down and you will see my handsome face upturned with its cute pink nose and gorgeous green eyes. You hardly have to be clairvoyant to understand that I would cherish your spending some one on one time with me, but if that doesn’t do it I may gently rest my legs on yours just as a not so subtle hint. I am a dapper fellow in my snow white fur garnished with rich brown tabby patches. Friendly as they come, I can’t think of many things better than being picked up and snuggled on a lap where I stretch out my front legs and relax in the pure joy of the moment. I say thank you with a softly revving purr and the occasional kitty kiss. I get along famously with both dogs and other cats, but my passion is the companionship of people. I so miss my person of 14 years and having someone take me home and cherish me would be pure joy. You’ll never find a gentler or more loyal friend than me. You could say that I’m love to the Max. My volunteer friend says that I am a classic beauty with my gorgeous and loving green eyes, pink nose, and tabby and calico markings on my plush white as snow fur. With my good looks I could be a diva, but I’m not. I’m very social and always one of the first to greet visitors to our room, winding figure 8’s around their legs to gain the attention that I delight in. Once you’re seated I’ll join you, giving out head bumps and performing my patented little happy dance accompanied by my soothing and steady purr. How nice it is to stretch out beside you while you gently stroke my back and scratch under my furry chin! After an initial adjustment period I now do quite well with my roommates here, which I hear is not something every calico can say. Some say I must not have read the calico manual. I’m just a mature, settled, warmhearted, and just plain huggable lady waiting here for you. CLICK ON IMAGE OR NAME FOR ADDITIONAL PICTURES AND INFORMATION!

Melody was a super mom to her babies and made sure that they were well behaved and growing like weeds before embarking on her new life here at the sanctuary. Melody has now set up shop with a whole roomfull of other kitties. One of the smallest in this group, Melody can often be found lounging in the sun on the screened in porch. Hi! My name is Mercury and I alongside my good buddy and best friend, Jake hold very important positions here at CFC. You see, we are in charge of overseeing Toni (Vet Tech) and her staff as they use OUR kitchen to prepare meals for the furry residents. With some residents receiving twice daily feedings, you can only imagine how busy we are day in day out. When not at work, I love sacking out in the screened in porch area off the kitchen or reclining near the microwave where I am apt to pick up a lot of free neck and body rubs. I am a very friendly, social guy and really turn the heads with my sleek, all black jacket and intense golden eyes. I am FIV positive but have been very healthy. Happy to be toted around the room, Mikey is so very easy going and if given the chance will wrap his body around your ankles in an attempt to anchor you to his room. I have heard myself affectionately referred to as “the wee gray mousie girl.” Now I’ll own up to being petite and to having short hair that is as plush and luxurious as can be found anywhere, but I am 100% pure people loving kitty cat. My dove gray fur, highlighted with delectable peach accents, is so soft that in comparison a cotton ball feels like a steel wool pad. Perhaps too my endearing little meow squeaked in greeting sounds a tiny bit mouse-like. What is undeniable is that I am a total love bug who revels in a kind touch and who will lie, purring, cradled in your arms like a baby. I’m big on making eye contact and being close to those giving out caresses and chin scratches. Those who know me say that I am one of the dearest and sweetest of the many special souls residing here. My volunteer admirer says that he can’t believe that I have not yet been adopted; that’s OK because I’m here waiting for you and my cherishing forever home. When my sister and I came to CFC in a cage in the open bed of a pickup I was a terrified and wild child. Our “rescuer” had hosed us down, allegedly to calm us, but as you can imagine that abuse only served to magnify our fright and mistrust of humans. Through the reassuring efforts of compassionate folks like Susan and Robin I have made the journey from traumatized waif to today’s ever more confident and loving baby girl. I now tiptoe up to visitors and plant myself nearby in hopes of some caresses and chin scratches. My little purr engine springs to life and I am generous with head bumps; my luminous eyes glow with happiness and gentleness. I haven’t quite gotten the hang of lap sitting yet, but I’d be happy to work on that new skill with you. I’m no longer a misty May; I’d say I’m more a sparkling October, sunny and full of life’s prospects. The changes in me are almost impossible to comprehend in view of my horrible beginnings, but my volunteer friends will attest to what a wonderful and affectionate girl I have become. If I may borrow some words from that classic Temptations’ hit “My Girl,” You’ll have sunshine on a cloudy day. When it’s cold outside you’ll have Misty May. The other cats in my room sometimes point their paws at me and call me the "Food Lion Fellow." At present I am as shy as I am good looking and my admirers must do so from a distance; I try to keep a comfortable space between me and them. Not to worry though, as it has been shown time and time again at the sanctuary that time and affection can work wonders with bashful guys like me. Since arriving at CFC, I have done an excellent job in mingling with the other kitties in my "room" and have also found the perfect "perch" on the porch. When you come to visit me for example, look for the cubicle which is in the shape of a wedge of cheese. When I arrived at CFC there was still hardened plastic on my back that had dripped on me when my family’s trailer caught fire. I am blessed in many ways, but no more so than to have escaped with my life from that inferno. If I had to describe myself in one word, it would be “people cat.” OK, that’s two words but you get the point. Folks visiting my room will often feel a soft tapping on their leg as I prop my front leg against them in a polite request to be picked up. I revel in chinny scratches and give happy chin bumps in thanks. I gladly flop on a lap or next to my person, leaning into you for attention and almost standing on my head in enthusiastic response to being petted. As my photos, taken shortly after my introduction to CFC, demonstrate that I was once a creature (one of many the sanctuary is caring for) of the vines. You see, when I first arrived here I was very frightened and unsure of what my future held and the vines growing into our outdoor patio offered a tiny bit of cover. While I am still demure and unassuming, I have turned the page so to speak and have become the affectionate and loving baby girl that I am today. I welcome and even seek out visitors, hopeful of some chin scrunches and lots of pets down my back. I have filled out and become quite the looker according to my human friends and they say the scalloped white toes on my front paws are adorable. I generously dole out gentle head bumps and love as I revel in being loved on and in being in a lap; that’s a place that I once would have feared, but where now I am quite at home. While I’m a big fellow, I’m by no means fat but rather long and lean. I don’t so much lie on a lap as I engulf it, sprawling out with my head hanging over the edge. Extend a friendly hand to me and I’ll reach out with my paw and bring it in to me for a head bump. My volunteer friend calls me a kissy kat, as once I have that hand I will often lay a quick little smooch on it. I hang out on the periphery of he throng of friendly felines who rush to greet visitors to our room, waiting for the opportunity to sidle in and apply some encouraging head bumps to the legs of our guest. If everything goes as planned I soon am in that person’s lap, purring softly but sincerely and reveling in being petted and caressed. I lean into my new (and hopefully forever) friend and am not shy about bestowing loving head bumps. Now who doesn’t need a little Spice in their life? I’m here waiting for your call. This gorgeous girl (sister of Mystic, April and May) joined the CFC gang after beginning life in a dumpster. Spirit does not like a lot of physical contact, but is getting better at accepting some gentle touching and petting. She really loves the company of the other cats in the room. When she is on top of a condo (and only then!), she likes neck rubs and will let you groom her. She enjoys spending time outside and curled up on top of a condo for a good catnap. Squirt is a quiet, low maintenance cat who welcomes any attention especially when it involves interesting or interactive toys. Squirt will tolerate being held briefly but does not like to be cuddled for long periods of time. He is smart and inquisitive, not to mention handsome and very sleek. Although described as the silent type, this kitty can surely hold his own! Squirt is FIV positive. CLICK ON IMAGE OR NAME FOR ADDITIONAL PICTURES AND INFORMATION !

In the interest of truth in advertising I have to confess that my name currently does not suit me very well. Since being plucked from the only home I had ever known and brought to the sanctuary I’ve been a real crabapple. I’m not a kitty devotee so the proximity to others does not help my mood one bit. Do you KNOW how many cats there are here?! On the sugar to spice continuum, unless there is food in the offing, I am definitely at the spice end, but when the mood is right I can be very social and accepting of affection. Everyone agrees that, with my natty white vest, chubby cheeks, and cute pink nose on a white muzzle, I cut quite the dashing figure. It’s not always apparent but I really am trying to adjust to my new circumstances and all, including me, are hopeful that I will in time make the transition to the sweet cuddly little teddy bear that I resemble. Was there ever a girl so aptly named? With blushes of orange here and there in my velvety tabby fur I do indeed look as though the sun kissed me. I am not a party animal, preferring to maintain my personal space when it comes to other cats, but I revel in the attentions of people. Speak soothingly to me and my little face lights up and my soft purr engine cranks right up. In my opinion there is little that is better than having a nice, warm lap to curl up in for some Sunkist loving. I’m petite, gentle, and an all around good girl. I don’t know my origins, but Sweden’s my name and on that basis I think that you could call me a Scandinavian sweetie. While I am not an in your face kind of girl, I am gentle and appreciative of a kind word and a soft caress. My ears work just fine in spite of their crinkled appearance that long past infections gave them; someone said that I could be called the poor man’s Scottish Fold. I have a very laid back personality and my favorite hobby is curling up in a nice fleece lined cubby for a nap or perhaps just to observe all that is going on around me. I have a pacifist philosophy and tend to approach life in a laid back fashion. Speaking of fashion, have you noticed my beautiful markings, white cravat, pert orange nose, and large soulful eyes? In short, I am a very affable and quiet girl, waiting patiently for my Prince or Princess Charming to whisk me away to my forever home. I am known as the stunning grey and black tabby princess who loves hanging out in my castle and with my "subjects," (other kitties!). I am very selective about my human friends (aren't most princesses??) but once I know you, I'll let you pet my fabulous fur jacket and maybe even the area around my tiara!! While shy and cautious, as laid back as I am, I could provide you with just the perfect amount of unimposing kitty presence in your own castle.CLICK ON IMAGE OR NAME FOR ADDITIONAL PICTURES AND INFORMATION !

I’m quiet and demure, totally undemanding and abiding by a live and let live philosophy. I tend to spend my leisure time curled up in a cat tree, snoozing happily away. I don’t seek out attention and I’m not an in your face kind of girl, but I don’t object to some soft caresses down my brown tabby back. It’s just important that anyone petting me do it gently and slowly since I am very much on the shy side. FeLV+ CLICK ON IMAGE OR NAME FOR ADDITIONAL PICTURES AND INFORMATION!

Gentle of nature, big of heart, and round of head- that’s me all right. If you had to describe me in just a very few words, “big old placid teddy bear” wouldn’t be off the mark at all. My gorgeous latte hued fur is as soft as any super suede and a true joy to pet, or so says my volunteer admirer. Nothing really gets my goat (they don’t have those here do they?) and I just take things as they come with calm acceptance. I’m pretty much a Buddha boy of the cat world, both in appearance and in my pacifist philosophy of life. FIV+ and Feluk + CLICK ON IMAGE OR NAME FOR ADDITIONAL PICTURES AND INFORMATION!

Classic elegance, stunning packaging and uncompromising quality are what we all associate with the "real" Tiffany as in jewelers. I promise to not disappoint! In entering my room, you can't help but notice me in my plush deep grey jacket with subtle white striping. I will quickly meet and greet visitors and while I am ok with other cats, I really, really love being around people. I am such an "exclusive" kitty, like the jeweler, that I challenge you to find another perfectly packaged kitty such as myself!FELV+ CLICK ON IMAGE OR NAME FOR ADDITIONAL PICTURES AND INFORMATION !

My name aside the only things really exotic about me are my gorgeous bull’s eye tabby markings and stripes. I’m just a big, soft and gentle sweetie, but if you were going to liken me to a wild creature it would have to be a mountain goat. I say that because I am one of the most enthusiastic head bumpers you’ve ever seen. When my best friend Marley, who arrived here with me, and I meet head on and bestow greeting head bumps on one another it’s said that we resemble two mountain goats jousting. I go through life that way, handing out friendly head bumps to one and all. I have not one aggressive bone in me and I dearly love sitting next to a person or in a lap while they stroke my bunny soft fur and speak words of endearment to me. I’ve been described as the epitome of a brown tabby with my striking markings and white cravat and toes. In the poem that begins “Tiger, tiger, burning bright” the speaker wonders if the hand that created the tiger also created the lamb. I can provide some insight on that, for this Tiger is a lamb. I will make some lucky soul the best and most faithful of companions, so please come visit me and my pal Marley too. CLICK ON IMAGE OR NAME FOR ADDITIONAL PICTURES AND INFORMATION!

I have a big name to grow into! People assume with such a bold, strong name that I am the leader of the pack and direct those around me. Truth be known, I am a sweet, gentle gal who is actually a bit skittish and shy. I am very comfortable hanging out on the top of a kitty condo watching everyone conduct their daily activies. On occasion I will entertain rubbing under my chin and other human affection. I am reading up on the internet the art of being loved and how to show it to those around me. Feel free to stop by and participate in a "work in progress." FELV+ CLICK ON IMAGE OR NAME FOR ADDITIONAL PICTURES AND INFORMATION !

Sometimes first impressions can be misleading. Because I like to lie on top of one of the kitty condos, observing all that is going on below, you might think that I am aloof, but I am anything but standoffish or hard-hearted. All you have to do is extend a loving hand to me and you’ll be greeted with warm and vigorous head butts in a display of affection that I think you will find cheering and fun. Tippy is an apt name for me as I tend to tippy toe about as I lobby for attention and pets. With my gorgeous long hair and dainty ways some who have come to know me here even call me enchanting. I’m blushing at such praise, but I have to confess that I delight in being loved and valued for the sweetheart that I am. CLICK ON IMAGE OR NAME FOR ADDITIONAL PICTURES AND INFORMATION!

Overseeing the canine and human workers here at the Scratching Post can be an exhausting position, but I am truly the man for the job!! My friends will all say I am an active busy body and perhaps even rambunctious at times. Smile. Smile. I love finding new treasures to play with, investigating open cabinets and surveying the work crew from my perch atop the refrigerator. Other cats keep me stimulated and keep me on my toes so a home with other felines would suit me just fine. Like my namesake I am a full of energy and sometimes salty guy. I am so full of myself that I found it difficult to hold still for my photo shoot. I almost turn myself inside out begging for some loving, virtually standing on my head and giving bodacious head bumps. As for the salty part, I am not a fan of other cats and can be downright cranky with them. As the center of one’s universe in a single cat (ME!) home I think I would be an entertaining, affectionate, and fun companion. CLICK ON IMAGE OR NAME FOR ADDITIONAL PICTURES AND INFORMATION!

It’s true my wide face and chubby cheeks make me pretty much irresistible and any visitor to my room will be compelled to bend down and pet my bunny soft fur. I’m an easygoing, live and let live kind of fellow, tending to keep a low profile and to go my own way. I am gentle and enjoy loving attention from friends and visitors. Technically I am an orange tabby, but my fine fur is actually an unusual pale yellow color. It is just one of the things that make me unique and special. HI! Every day when I wake up, I am ready to go to some fancy affair (you may have noticed I am perpetually dressed in a tux!) but sadly growing up semi feral in an outside environment, those opportunities were not abundantly available for me. My luck has changed however since arriving at CFC. For openers, I was able to quickly set up shop with some other shy kitties in my room who envite me over to their cage top perches to watch the day go by. I adore hanging out with my new feline friends and have slowly allowed staff to favor me with mini pets and scratches. I am still a work in progress but, hey progress is exciting. Come stop by and be a part of it. CLICK ON IMAGE OR NAME FOR ADDITIONAL PICTURES AND INFORMATION !

I was not exactly the goddess of love when I first came to the sanctuary. In my kitchen condo I was equal parts flirtation and “whack you with a paw.” Now in my room I am just the flirtatious part of the equation. Like my brother Atlas I have a compact build, wonderfully large yellow eyes, cute orange nose, and beautiful exotic stripes. I’ve become quite the little cutie, welcoming pets and seeking attention from visitors. CLICK ON IMAGE OR NAME FOR ADDITIONAL PICTURES AND INFORMATION !

Yes, I’m a bashful boy who likely will scamper away when we first meet; but when you gather me up in your arms I won’t struggle and once you have me cuddled snugly in your lap the purring will commence. Almost as soon as someone starts to softly stroke my little chipmunk patterned body you can see the apprehension leave my face to be replaced by a look of satisfaction and happiness. I am trying mightily to overcome my shyness, but for the wise person willing to be patient and to work with me the reward will be priceless. I am one of the gentlest creatures on earth and just a soft and kind personality. My best friend here is big gruff looking Avatar so a home with a nice kitty companion would be good for me I think. This sweet kitty was pregnant when she came to CFC as part of a colony of cats who could no longer be properly cared for. She was a great mommy, but is happy to kick back and relax now that her kittens can fend for themselves! Born in approx. June of 2007, Willow is a tender, loving cat who loves attention and is always purring for more! Note: Both of her kitties have found forever homes and Willow hopes her turn at a full-time pet position will be coming soon. CLICK ON IMAGE OR NAME FOR ADDITIONAL PICTURES AND INFORMATION!

I was a very shy kitten, frightened and unsure of what awaited me here in the sanctuary. In fact, I and my brother and sister were sometimes referred to as the spittin’ kittens. Boy has that changed! There is nothing like lots of love and care to convince a sweet black kitten that all is well and people are OK after all. I am still a bit reserved with new acquaintances, but enjoy being petted and made over. My eyes often are a bit closed, which gives me a benevolent and even quizzical look. I am great with other cats, give little head bumps freely, and am one dapper fellow. CLICK ON IMAGE OR NAME FOR ADDITIONAL PICTURES AND INFORMATION !

You’d think that after being in an adoptive home since November of 2007 my life would be very secure. I won’t argue whose fault it was, but I just could not get along with my person’s other cat. So back to the sanctuary I came, where initially I was a bit of a sissy boy. After a short period of adjustment I am coexisting with the other cats in my room, although there are some that I don’t enjoy having impinge on my space. I’m once again the outgoing and sociable fellow that I was during my first stay at CFC. No visitor can leave our room without being graced with my friendly greeting and sweet demands for some petting and attention. My previous eye condition has long been corrected thanks to the many efforts of my sanctuary people, but it did leave me with a somewhat quizzical, Dr. Spock like expression. Live long and prosper! I'm wearing my heart on my nose and not on my sleeve! Folks will tell you this makes me a super special kitty who in some respects has twice the love to give. I overheard one of our most senior staffers commenting on how long I have been here at CFCl, perhaps one of THE most tenured residents. I've learned a lot during my spell here at CFC. I've learned to love nuzzling, neck scratches, and overall body rubs. I'm a petite lady who is very lovable, low key and gentle. Although I'm now a senior, I've never lost hope that my person would come for me. Perhaps this will be MY year. I think it's about time!
